By the way it looked on the live feed, which was just as bad as it always is, it looked like he slowed down in the final hairpin thus causing Odi Bakchis to run into him. Now that could have been the livestream lag making it look like he slowed down, but I couldn't tell from the several times they replayed it. The video lagged at the same point each time they replayed it.
I really appreciate them posting up the livestream video, but it is awfully frustrating to watchdue to the shoddy performance.

Yeah, considering there was never another angle shown, I couldn't tell exactly where and why it appeared that the tC parked it there. I was baffled by all of the mechanical issues that came up at the end, but there were a few extra runs of hammering on the cars due to the final four all getting "one more time" calls. I was sad that Matt Field came so close, but still missed a podium finish. And I'm sure that Tuerck is all kinds of disappointed that his car broke/couldn't repair in time to make it into the finals.
Also, how is it Forrest Wang rocks qualifying so much, then is woefully inconsistent on race day? He had about three qualifying #1 events last year (and this one), but then he gets knocked out at the first round.

Typical 5 minute competition time out that lasted 20 minutes for Ryan Tuerck. If they're going to give them that much time they should state that up front. They are just killing their credibility.
Perhaps they need to allow 5 minutes in the early rounds and then up to 20 minutes in the later rounds. I think everyone wanted to see Tuerck run again, including me. I wanted him to win. But that was ridiculous.

Yeah, I was thinking that, too.
That's a pretty great idea to keep the competition running 'til the end, but I'm wondering if the audience would be that patient. In the early rounds, the next matchup can run while a team is fixing something, but in the final four, they may be waiting on that specific result (as was the case here). You can only cut to commercial so much for the viewers at home, and they lose interest each time. But yeah, I'd love to see less mechanical failures deciding results.
The thing is, these cars are pushing crazy power and torque levels through admittedly stout race parts, and I'm sure if the teams dialed it back a bit, less stuff would break. But, if you get outgunned by another car's power (I'm looking at you, 2012 Daigo), you don't advance, and even though the other guy's car may not last to the finals, they still beat you in the bracket. So I'm sure that to some extent, all the drivers are looking to push as much as they can through their setup, and pray that it holds.
I thought about the idea of maybe if your car is ever unable to complete a run during the main event, you get a DNF for the weekend and standings adjust accordingly (maybe throw some knocked out competitors back in for a second chance), but that seems too harsh. I'm just considering that if you're out front for all 20 hours of a 24 hour endurance race, then your engine pops, most everyone in the field still has time to pass you—kind of an "in order to finish first, first you must finish" thing.

Despite the fact that it's been 11 years, I believe the power / reliability tradeoff will eventually get worked out. Drivers make their decisions and succeed or fail with them. I am good with that.
The problem I don't see them being able to deal with fairly is a drivers car getting wrecked and the fault be placed on the other driver, and then the winning (wrecked) driver not having a 100% car to compete in the next round with. In other forms of auto racing getting taken out by a competitor happens. But in drifting with the proximity and constant edge of control it seems to happens every round. The drivers just seem to shrug it off though. I guess the benefit of having a drifting career outweighs the competitive frustration.
I just thought of a post I have to put up on another topic.
